Worked with the crew at Strange Reptile to make this Dave & Busters ride with VRStudios. It's all in Unreal Engine and made for VR.
These are some of the VFX and materials that I made for various parts of the experience.
I built the charge up and part of the explosion with this one.
This mostly uses UV warping to get the wavy effect. The rest is pretty simple fresnel blends and a single pattern texture.
Shield and its hit react. This guy is generally at a distance so the effect is very exaggerated.
This is a mix of Apex destruction, physics enabled meshes and particles.
